AerPotato – Employing modern aeroponic technology and stress-protective nanoparticles for improved seed potato production under elevated temperature
AerPotato aims to solve the problem of the low rate of pre-basic seed potato (minituber) production under elevated temperatures by employing a beyond-state-of-the-art approach. Our approach combines the application of modern aeroponic technology and stress-protective nanoparticles (NPs) to promote growth, enhance stress tolerance and productivity of potato plants, which can be applied to other commercially important plant species.
Activities
2024
TESTING HEAT-PROTECTIVE PROPERTIES OF SELECTED COMPOUNDS IN THE FORM OF NANOPARTICLES (NPs) ON POTATO TUBERIZATION USING IN VITRO AND EX VITRO MODEL SYSTEMS
- Investigate the heat-protection potential of selected compounds in the form of nanoparticles (NPs) on potato tuberization under elevated temperatures using an in vitro model system.
- Estimate optimal concentration(s) of protective compounds' NPs regarding tuberization heat-protection in vitro.
- Determine the heat-protection potential of protective compounds' NPs and their combinations regarding ex vitro growth and tuberization of potato plants under elevated temperatures.
ESTABLISHMENT OF AEROPONIC FACILITY FOR POTATO CULTIVATION
- Designing, constructing, and testing the aeroponic facility for potato pre-basic seed (minituber) production.
2025
TESTING THE EFFECTS OF SELECTED COMPOUNDS' NPs ON POTATO GROWTH AND TUBERIZATION UNDER ELEVATED TEMPERATURES – YEAR I
- In vitro propagation of potato microplants for aeroponics, their acclimation in greenhouse, and transfer to aeroponics.
- Establish a procedure for protective compounds' NPs treatment of aeroponically grown potato plants under elevated temperatures.
- Investigate the effects of protective compounds' NPs on potato growth and tuberization in the aeroponic system under heat stress.
